Research The Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, represented by the National Committee for Land Sciences, in cooperation with the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences, the International Foundation for Development, Environment and Climate, and the Taiko Office of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology organized a workshop entitled "Challenges of sustainable development in the lands of the Arab Republic of Egypt", under the auspices of Dr. Mahmoud Saqr, President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, this workshop comes within the framework of the celebration of the World Soil Day, with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of sustainable development and its role in the sustainability of food and agricultural production, and improving and increasing the productive capacity of agricultural lands to cope with the continuous increase in population numbers.
The workshop dealt with several topics including smart agriculture, the challenges of desert agricultural expansion and the optimal use of water, climate and soil, salt-affected lands and methods of treatment, evaluation of agricultural reclaimable lands using remote sensing and space sciences, the role of nanotechnology in agricultural land productivity, the use of digital maps in ecology Agriculture, Egypt's sustainability map, and digital promotion to restore soil health and sustainable agricultural ecosystems.
The topics for the workshop were selected within the framework of the state's interest in sustainable development in line with the vision and strategy of Egypt 2030 and the vision and direction of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology to confront the repercussions of the Corona virus, according to the studies prepared by the qualitative councils of the Academy of Scientific Research in various fields, on top of which are projects related to agriculture and food security.
It is worth noting that the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology established the National Committee for Sustainable Development with the participation of fifteen universities and research centers and the League of Arab States, and the committee plays an important role in following up the state's goals in sustainable development and linking them with the United Nations goals for sustainable development (seventeen goals) in institutions of higher education and scientific research.
