Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, attended yesterday evening in a Cairo hotel, the press conference to announce that Egypt will host the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship.
The tournament will be held under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Sahl Hasheesh, Hurghada, in the Red Sea Governorate, in November of next year 2021, and about 3,000 contestants of different nationalities are competing in it, and it is a qualifying tournament for the World Championship in New Zealand.
The conference was attended by Ahmed Youssef, Chairman of the Tourism Promotion Authority, and a number of those responsible for organizing the tournament, which is one of the strongest international tournaments in the field of swimming, cycling and running.
The Minister of Youth and Sports emphasized Egypt's ability to host international sporting conferences and events, and to organize them at the highest level thanks to what Egypt possesses in terms of assets and capabilities, referring to the role of those events in stimulating sports tourism in Egypt.
Dr. Ashraf Sobhi pointed out that Egypt enjoys the tourist and archaeological monuments and the tourist coastal governorates, which are strong attractions to win the rights to host major events, pointing to the state’s keenness to make these events succeed in a manner befitting Egypt's status and ability.
The minister called for more sports links and entities that seek to spread sport within the community by holding sports marathons and various competitions in light of making sport a way of life, which is the approach that the Ministry of Youth and Sports seeks to achieve in coordination with the concerned authorities.
