The role of the media in confronting rumors ... An educational seminar at Benha University

 


 Today, Dr. Gamal Al-Saeed, President of Benha University, MP Mahmoud Muslim, a member of the Senate, editor-in-chief of Al-Watan newspaper and head of the DMC Channels Network, received today on the sidelines of a seminar organized by the University’s Leadership Development Center in cooperation with the Students for Egypt family on “The Role of Media in Confronting Rumors”

This came in the presence of Dr. Tamer Samir, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Gamal Sousa, supervisor of the community service and environmental development sector, Dr. Muhammad Abu Salem, supervisor of the Leadership Development Center, and Dr. Ahmed Naguib, Director of the Center.

During the meeting, the President of Benha University stressed the role of the media in developing awareness among young people, adding that the university is keen to conduct dialogues and communicate with students with the aim of building a new generation of youth capable of contributing to building society.

Al-Saeed reviewed the role of the university’s Leadership Development Center and its capabilities in hosting training programs for university students and young faculty members, indicating that the center is one of the university’s projects that aspires to create highly qualified cadres through cooperation with major bodies and specialized national academies.

In his speech during the symposium held at the Long Live Egypt Hall, Dr. Muhammad Abu Salem referred to the role of the media in confronting rumors, stressing that the seminar comes within the mission of the Leadership Preparation Institute to educate young people about the problems and negative phenomena and confront rumors that have become threatening society every moment.

Abu Salem said that the Center for Leadership Development at Benha University has been equipped at the highest level to serve university students, as it includes buildings and playgrounds to hold various youth events and gatherings.

For his part, MP Mahmoud Muslim thanked the Benha University and the Leadership Development Center for organizing the symposium and student participation, wishing to popularize the idea of ​​establishing leaders preparation centers in universities and various bodies to create a continuous dialogue with youth

Muslim warned of the seriousness of the rumors that we are facing every second on social media, Facebook and cyberspace in light of the war waged by external channels and electronic brigades aimed at undermining the confidence of the Egyptian citizen in the achievements and exporting rumors and lies for political purposes

Muslim indicated that Egypt had a pioneering experience in confronting the Corona virus during the first wave, adding that the economic reform program was one of the reasons for surviving the Corona crisis.

Musallam added that creating awareness and forming awareness is an important weapon in the battle to confront malicious rumors, channels and websites funded from abroad that attack Egyptians, and they must participate in this industry alongside the media that is part of it by transmitting and broadcasting news and facts of the state's religious, cultural and youth institutions and clerics with one hand for Confronting the fierce war and protecting the youth from the harms of rumors and lies, as they have a great role in changing the convictions and behavior of citizens significantly.

Muslim called for state institutions to adopt, in coordination with each other, to set up a national project to focus on developing and raising awareness among young people and confronting rumor wars, stressing that the most important issue that he decided to identify within the Senate is the battle of awareness and how to coordinate efforts to build a conscious generation of youth and citizens.
