Wars that slaughter spring in the eyes of the country and kill mercy and humanity in the faces of children. Blood occupies the land as a substitute for flowers, the smell of rottenness and the stench of basil leaves. Music is the way to confront the enemies of peace. That is why the "first page" hosts the Lebanese musician Dr. Hayaf Yassine, Director General of Beit The musician is in the Lebanese folklore, to talk with us about the state of Arab music now and the forms of confronting terrorism and wars through it.
* In light of the wars and problems that the Arab nation faces, how does music stand in the way of these wars?
Basically music is a deep activity and an image that reflects the depth of society and its culture, and we at the level of the Arab world have a close relationship with music. If this were invested through the intensification of establishing institutes, schools and musical institutions in a professional manner, and the young generation was linked to it, the generations would have been built on the love of music that It contains many high-end human values, we see music that elevates the value of humanity, so that a person is a love of life, a lover of man and a lover of peace more than a love for wars, and instead of carrying deadly instruments, we find that he carries musical instruments, and these conservatories must enhance the identity of Arab musicians and not remain weak in front of music Western music, if openness forces us to harmonize and communicate, then we must strengthen Arab music, and Arabs are specifically required to be pioneers of Arab music because they understand it more than others.
* Egypt and Lebanon are united by a culture of the same type, so how does folk music differ in Lebanon?
There is a fundamental convergence in many cultures between Egypt and Lebanon, and if we go back to history before international political divisions and what resulted from the effects of the first and second world wars, then Egypt in terms of geography would be greater and we know that its sensitive and strategic geographical location made it a link between the Arab Mashreq and the Maghreb, and we know that Lebanon It was a large part of the Levant. The real cultural movement that arose in the era of the second Arab renaissance in the mid-nineteenth century and up to the twentieth century oscillated between the two countries a lot of musical mobility, and the Egyptian musician Abdel-Hamuli had established the Arab renaissance during the reign of Khedive Ismail. Between four musical poles, such as Egyptian folk music, as he took Al-Muwashah Al-Halabi from the Levant and Lebanon, then based on the third axis, which is Sufi music, which is common between Egypt and the Levant as he took Ottoman music, so there is a great connection, especially the Renaissance in which we found many Lebanese musicians who participated To play to and from Egypt, and among these musicians Farag Allah Bayda, the player Mohiuddin Abu Ayoun, and Alexandra Badran, and there is an extended cooperation with me N Egyptian and Lebanese musicians.
* Information openness and technological development have caused a breakthrough in many areas, including the field of music, what do you think of mixing Arab oriental music with European classical music?
The impact and technological progress is evident in all fields as well as in the musical framework, especially as it is a social activity that affects and is affected by any human party from technological development, and in fact, music has benefited from this development, after it suffered from being an auditory activity and there is no way to transfer this activity to a group of people At another time, and with the advent of recordings at the beginning of the twentieth century, audiences began to enjoy music, and these recordings remain immortal, and with the continuous development, music became transmitted and recorded in digital form, which alleviated the problem of musical notation.
Musicians used to struggle from archiving their music to replace the audio text with written text, and the written text does not provide the complete picture of the nature of the performed text, like someone who reads a novel and tries to imagine directing the opposite of if he had seen it in the cinema.
Technology has opened the horizons of global cultural communication, and musicians have tried to reach patterns that integrate music as a whole, but the issues reached a random way that presented hybrid models that do not carry many human values, but rather carry values that have the ability to spread and promote, as if the issue is for profit only and the culture of social media is based on numbers. The prevalence of the content is measured by number, regardless of the content, which is far from the human value of musical taste.
* The information revolution and cultural globalization have made identities dissipate, but music can preserve the culture and identity of their homelands, so how does this happen?
If music, with its activity and its ability, in contrast to the cultural and social movement, wants to preserve the cultural identity, it is important to have educational institutions that are concerned with the musical upbringing at all school levels, and it is important to strengthen the local cultural identity such as the Egyptian and regional Arab and then there is another activity which is communication between international musicians As if it is a music economy so that there is a balance between exports and imports so that there is no cultural deficit. If we will depend only on what we import from abroad and not export, then we are in a deficit and a balance must be established on all levels.
* Can music fight terrorism?
Terrorism has a political perspective, and here it must be confronted from the same perspective, and we must have policies that do not promote a culture of terrorism, but rather a culture of peace, openness, a culture of acceptance of others, etc. At the same time, terrorism has an ideological perspective, and this terrorist ideology can be confronted with the musical belief as music may carry Some of the drawbacks are, as consumer music that calls for turmoil is what drives its owners to criminality, so we find that many saboteurs are accompanied by loud music that calls for murder, and in the modern world specialties, we find that when a person has a character and must be changed, then it is necessary to pump a lot of music in the opposite direction. Violence adopted by terrorist groups must be confronted with music that evokes calm and humane temperaments in order to deter them from practicing these things.
